The 2015 campaign for permanent research positions at the CNRS (Centre national de la recherche scientifique) is officially open. The submission deadline is January 6th 2015. There are 212 open positions at the CR2 level (same as in 2014), 77 CR1 (+11), 253 DR2 (-26) and 2 DR1 (+2).

Note that the DR2 positions are generally filled by internal CNRS candidates (at the senior CR1 level). In 2013, only 10 out of the 279 DR2 laureates were external candidates (see this reference - in French). I do not have the corresponding data for 2014.
To put things in a historical perspective, the Figure above shows the number of open positions over the last sixteen years (data from 1999 to 2004 retrieved from the Guilde des doctorants and from 2005 onward from the official texts.) It has decreased systematically the last five years, due to budget restrictions.

ReplyDeleteI was wondering if you know where we can find examples of applications in particular for the research proposal. I would like to know if it looks more like a grant proposal or like a typical proposal for a tenure-track position in the US (which are very different ways to write a research project).

I do not know of any publicly available examples. The application is relatively short (below 10 pages, if I remember correctly) and should explain how the candidate will fit in the host team. This is one of the reasons you should contact that team as soon as possible. See my previous post:

I will have my interview this March (section 03 DR2 position).
Do you know if the audition format is the same for CR and DR positions?

I'm about to find out, since it's the first time I'm applying for a DR2 position (in section 11). If by "format" you mean the contents, I would say yes: discuss previous activity and then the project for the next few years. If you refer to the allotted time, you will receive an official invitation detailing the audition process (and duration). I would budget 15-20 minutes for the presentation and as much again for the discussion.
